Swiss Insurtech Hub (SIH) collects personal data about you. SIH as the controller processes your personal data in compliance with the provisions under the Swiss Data Protection Act (“DPA”) and General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”), as amended from time to time (collectively “Regulation”). This Data Protection Policy (“Policy”) explains how we use any personal data we collect about you.

What Personal Data do we collect? 

“Personal Data” is any information relating to you or that we can otherwise link to you. We collect the following types of information about you:

  • Registration and Profile Information. When you register as a SIH member, we collect your personal information such as your first and last name, your employer, your title or position, your postal or physical address, email address and phone number(s). We may collect a photo, if you decide to associate a photo with your membership account. 
  • Data collected through use of the website. When you visit our website, we may collect your IP address and other information collected from your visits to our website.
  • Data collected through social media. When you interact with us through our LinkedIn page, such as when you like us on LinkedIn or post a comment to our LinkedIn page, we may receive information from the social network such as your profile information, profile picture, gender, user name, user ID associated with your social media account, age, language, country, and any other information you permit the social network to share with third parties. The data we receive is dependent on your privacy settings with the social network. You should always review and if necessary adjust your privacy settings on third party websites and services before interacting with our LinkedIn page.
  • Data collected for event administration. When you sign up for our event (regardless of your membership status), we collect your first name, last name and email address to send you event reminders and event information. In cases when you are invited as a guest speaker, we may additionally collect your employer name, your title or position and your photo. 

In some cases, your Personal Data has been supplemented by information retrieved from other sources, including searches via publicly available search engines, sector-specific newsletters, and social media, for the purpose of sharing relevant information with you about the Swiss Insurtech Hub ecosystem.

How do we use your Personal Data? 

We only use your Personal Data in connection with our ordinary professional activities. We use that information for communication purposes, including:

  • to send you invitations to events, training sessions, conferences and lectures
  • to manage and administer our relationship with you
  • to maintain our list of contacts
  • to fulfill our legal, regulatory obligations
  • to post your first, last name and your photo on our SIH Website
  • for any purpose related to the foregoing or for any purpose for which you provided the personal data to SIH

Who do we share your Personal Data with?

We do not make your Personal Data available to any third party for commercial purposes. We may share your personal information with third parties outside of SIH in some circumstances, as follows:

  • We may share your personal information, including name and email address with SIH partner associations for the purpose of inviting you to their events
  • In case you are a guest speaker of our event, we share your personal information, such as Name, Address, Job Title, Directorship roles, level of shareholding  with Deloitte Touche Ltd for the purpose of carrying out due diligence review. We inform you about this processing as part of your invitation and collect your consent in advance to the processing.

Why do we process your Personal Data and on what legal basis?

As set out above we process your Personal Data for communication purposes. We rely on our legitimate interests in maintaining business relationships and communicating with you as a business contact, about SIH activities and events. We consider that our legitimate interests are in compliance with the applicable laws/Regulation and your legal rights and freedoms.

Where is your Personal Data stored?

SIH is a Swiss association, and all your Personal Data is processed and stored on the following platforms:

  • Google Drive – Google Drive is used to store all SIH business records. Access to SIH Google Drive folders is set to private and restricted to SIH Leadership Team members and SIH members who are responsible for regular business activities such as administering events, membership fee billing and communication with members.   • Eventbrite – Eventbrite platform is used to manage SIH events, including attendee registration handling. The distribution list containing SIH member email addresses, first and last names are stored in this platform. For further details on where Google stored the personal data, please click this link.
  • MailChimp – MailChimp is used for the management of newsletters, including the collection (e.g., via sign-up forms) and storage of personal data including email and name, and the transfer of personal data to certain of MailChimp’s sub-processors (who, as described in MailChimp’s Data Processing Agreement, perform some critical services, such as helping MailChimp prevent abuse and providing support to our customers). The data stored is gathered from either publicly available information in the case of prospects, or by user registration and profile creation for members, subscribers, and partners. How long do we keep your Personal Data?

Your Personal Data will be saved for the specified purposes mentioned above for as long as you are in contact with us. You can unsubscribe or terminate your membership at any time, if you no longer wish to receive communications and invitations from SIH. If you choose to unsubscribe or terminate your membership, we will cease to send you such communication and invitations as mentioned above.

What are your Rights?

The Regulation and other applicable data protection laws provide certain rights for data subjects. You are entitled to request details of the information we hold about you and how we process it. You may also request a copy. You are also entitled to have incorrect Personal Data about you corrected and you may in some cases ask us to delete your Personal Data. You can also object to certain Personal Data about you being processed and request that processing of your Personal Data be limited. Please note that the limitation or deletion of your Personal Data may mean we will be unable to provide the communications and invitations described above.

You also have the right to receive your Personal Data in a machine-readable format and have the data transferred to another party responsible for data processing. If you disagree with how we process your Personal Data, you are also entitled to report this to the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) and/or to the competent supervisory authorities in the EU.
